Driver's License Restoration Attorney in Buffalo, New York

When your driver's license is taken away from you, so is your personal freedom. If you have been driving for years—or even decades—and then your license is suspended or revoked, your life won’t feel the same anymore. The comfort and convenience that having a driver’s license offers you cannot compare to anything else.

And now that your driving privileges have been taken away, your life may be full of hassle and chaos. You find yourself jumping from one Uber to another or getting lost in crowded public transport to go to places. At Michael Kuzma Attorney at Law, I have represented people who were deprived of their right to drive for over two decades and know how much of a blow it is to have your driver’s license suspended or revoked.

I understand the urgency with which you may need your ability to drive restored. Even if your driver’s license has already been suspended or revoked, there may be options available to you to get yourself back on the road. I will examine the facts of your case and help you complete the necessary steps to have your license reinstated or restored.

What Services Do I Provide?

As your legal counsel, my ultimate goal is to help you regain your ability to drive after a suspension or revocation and get you back on the road as soon as possible. My services are tailored to each client’s unique circumstances. Whether you need my help in maintaining your driving privileges in the face of possible suspension or revocation or regaining your license, I can assist you with:

  • Preparing for and attending administrative hearings with the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) if you committed a serious violation or accumulated too many points and defending you against having your driving privileges taken from you;

  • Preparing for and attending civil court safety hearings after your involvement in a fatal car accident, refusal to submit to DUI testing, or other reasons, and protecting your right to drive;

  • Seeking a restricted or conditional license while your driver’s license is suspended; and

  • Getting your driver’s license reinstated or restored after the suspension/revocation period has ended.

Everyone’s situation is unique and requires personalized attention. For this reason, you might want to consult with an attorney to discuss how they might be able to help you regain your driving privileges in your specific situation.

Suspension vs. Revocation: What’s the Difference?

Many people think getting their driver’s license suspended and revocation is the same thing, but it’s not.

  • Suspension means that you are deprived of your right to drive for a period of time. You may be required to pay fees, take specific steps, and/or wait until the suspension period ends to regain your driving privileges; and

  • Revocation means that your driver’s license is taken away forever. It also means that when the revocation period ends (this could be years) and you wish to drive again, you will have to apply for a new license, get approval from the DMV first, take written and driving tests again, and pay applicable fees.

The process of getting your driver’s license back after a suspension or revocation is not easy. At Michael Kuzma Attorney at Law, I can guide you through this process and overcome any problems that may stand in the way of getting you back on the road.

Driver’s License Restoration in New York

According to the official website of the DMV, getting your driver’s license restored after most revocations requires approval from the Department’s Driver Improvement Unit (DIU). When you get such approval, you can proceed to apply for a new driver’s license.

In many cases, applicants can request approval from the DMV’s DIU online. When seeking approval online, the system will automatically determine your eligibility for making a request online or specify the reason why you are not eligible. If you are eligible, you can be issued approval immediately.

However, before you make your online request to the DMV’s DIU, you must first wait until the revocation period ends, resolve any suspensions, and pay any applicable fees. As your legal counsel, I can walk you through every step of the restoration process to increase your chances of a favorable outcome. I will always keep you updated about what's happening in your case.
